Futurium - Permanent Exhibition
ART+COM Studios, Schiel Projektgesellschaft mbH, Polygraph Design, Studio Dinnebier
2019 At Futurium, a 3,000 m² comprehensive permanent exhibition invites visitors to explore potential futures through a mix of analogue and digital media making complex information and competing ideas of the future easily accessible. Large-scale spatial design concepts create three "thinking spaces" and an introductory space, each dramatically different in mode and atmosphere, including "Thinking Space: Nature" featuring a huge eight-meter sculpture growing organically from the floor, "Thinking Space: Technology" with objective aesthetic of white backlit walls and multiple media stations, and "Thinking Space: Humans" dealing with behavioral changes for positive future influence.
Key installations include the "Neo-Natur" sculpture and an expansive tornado-like installation above the main staircase, plus an immersive light-and-sound installation translating global data space into atmospheric choreography of infinitely multiplied light reflections. Interactive features include an augmented reality app for experiencing animated future scenes in three-dimensional models, token-wristbands for evaluating visions and collecting information at media stations, and a "future machine" that issues personalized cards with individual codes for accessing in-depth web-based information after the visit. Located between the Reichstag and Berlin Central Station, the museum was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with partners including Max Planck Society, Helmholtz Association, and Fraunhofer Society.
